For Children: Oral Hygiene

As a mom of two boys, Dr. Davidson is passionate about educating kids on the importance of good oral hygiene, brushing teeth twice a day and going to the dentist twice a year for thorough cleanings. If you would like Dr. Davidson to give a fun presentation on proper oral hygiene at your child’s school, please contact our office.

Oral Hygiene Tips for Parents

Babies – Begin instilling good oral hygiene in your baby as soon as his or her teeth are visible. Every night before bed, gently clean their teeth and gums with a warm, wet washcloth.

Toddlers – Brushing with fluoride toothpaste helps prevent cavities, but fluoride, if ingested often, is harmful. Since most toddlers do not have the ability to spit, we recommend that toddlers use a soft brush and fluoride-free toothpaste (often called ‘training toothpaste) until they are old enough not to swallow.

Oral Hygiene

Kids – The best way to get kids to brush their teeth twice a day is to make teeth-brushing fun! Some ways to make teeth-brushing fun are:

  • Allow your child to pick out his or her favorite color or character toothbrush and favorite flavor of toothpaste.
  • Turn on their favorite song on your phone while they brush. This will make the time go by quicker and ensure they brush for at least two minutes.
